Nigeria's Poorest States

Here's a look at Nigeria's 10 poorest states by median income. According to data released from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) at the weekend, Sokoto has remained the poorest state in the country with a poverty rate over 81%.

The poorest states in the country are almost entirely found in the North and the wealthiest states can be found across the South. Though unemployment and basic education affects the rich and poor states alike, the poorest states struggle with it most.

While the trend continued across states in the North:  Katsina 74.5%, Adamawa 74.2%, Gomber 74.2%, Ebonyi 73.6%, Bauchi &3%, Kebbi 72% and Zamfara at 70.8%; Southern states fared better. The record showed an average poverty rate of 53.8% in the South compared to the 72% in the North.
